Studying the History of Science with Beautiful Feet Books

I love using living books to teach my kids. Books that grab kids’ interest and teach them. Not just about the dry facts of the world, but about character, determination, and the stories behind the world as we know it.

This is why I was delighted to get my hands on Beautiful Feet Books’ History of Science!

Beautiful Feet Books‘ History of Science is a living book science curriculum. As the name describes, it covers the history of science. But does it just teach the stories?

No!

It also teaches the science behind the stories.

This means that as you’re reading through Archimedes and the Door of Science, you’re drawing maps of the known world. You’re studying the Pythagorean Theorem. You’re experimenting with density.

My kids especially adored the experiment exploring density. They insisted on testing the density of various toys!

Can you think of a better way to teach science than by living books and hands-on experiments? I certainly can’t.

I was blown away by the quality of the curriculum. It’s amazing!

The Teacher’s Guide

Beautiful Feet Books’ History of Science Teacher’s Guide walks you through how to give your kids an excellent science education through living books and hands-on activities. Each of the 85 lessons has a number of steps for completing the lesson.

You can complete the entire lesson in an afternoon or spend a week following rabbit trails while working through the different steps

Each reading assignment ranges from a few pages to a couple of chapters. Kids learn geography, study the Greek Alphabet, write Bible verses, and define scientific vocabulary.

Beautiful Feet Books gives you excellent children’s biographies to explore science giving your kids the opportunity to see how science develops and how scientists work. And your kids will learn a bit of history along the way!

The experiments come from the delightful DK book, The Way Science Works: Discover the Secrets of Science with Exciting, Accessible Experiments. It’s crammed full of explanations, pictures, and easy experiments to do at home with the kids!

A timeline to hang on the wall is also included. The timeline itself is blank, but Beautiful Feet Books includes beautiful images to cut out and add to the timeline.

The cut-outs include a picture, name, date, and brief explanation of what they did. Just take a look at these gorgeous images!

History of Science

History of Science is divided into three sections.

Ancient Scientists: The first 16 lessons cover the ancients. Obviously, you cover Archimedes. But he’s not the only ancient scientist! You also study Pythagoras, Aristotle, Eratosthenes, Strabo, and Hero.

Medieval & Renaissance Scientists: In lessons 17 through 30 you study Medieval and Renaissance Scientists such as Gutenberg, Leonardo da Vinci, Copernicus, and Galileo. As you might imagine, there’s quite a bit of astronomy taught during these lessons!

Modern Scientists: Lessons 31 – 85 cover the modern scientists from Blaise Pascal to Albert Einstein.

History of Science is an awesome curriculum for science! Not only does it include delightful living books to read to your kids, but it also includes engaging hands-on activities. It’s a winning combination!
