Are you intimidated by the thought of teaching your kids cursive? It’s hard enough to convince kids to learn how to print these days much less convince them they need to learn cursive. Thankfully, I discovered a fabulous fun homeschool Christian cursive curriculum that works!

Homeschool Christian Cursive curriculum that works

This year I discovered an amazing cursive curriculum, Catch On to Cursive! It’s a whole-child approach to cursive penmanship that includes Bible verses, fun fine motor and hand-eye coordination activities, and plenty of practice.

I especially adore the fishing theme included in the penmanship book. It helps to keep kids engaged and interested!

Fishing Theme

Catch On to Cursive uses a fishing theme throughout the curriculum. We studied tackle boxes, parts of a fishing pole, and terms like cast, dock, and hoist. And we even got to learn about fish like Goliath groupers and whale sharks.

I found that the unified theme keeps kids engaged as they work through the curriculum, especially when so many activities were connected to the fishing theme like this fun tracing activity.

Hands-on Activities

It’s safe to say that not all kids are born with excellent fine motor control or good hand-eye coordination. And this is where Catch On to Cursive stands out from the crowd!

Catch On to Cursive includes a huge number of hands-on activities designed to develop both fine and gross motor control along with hand-eye coordination. And I loved the options! I could complete the activities as scheduled or return to activities as needed.

The Gear Up activities were designed with young kids in mind. Each activity is listed in the front of the curriculum along with the focus that the activity is designed to improve like crossing the mid-line, core strength, visual tracking, or strengthening fine motor skills.

Plus, the activities keep to the unified fishing theme, like hooking the crawdads, paddle the boat, and worm squeezes.

I don’t know about your kids, but my children have always loved adding fun physical activities to their schoolwork. It breaks up the day and keeps the blood moving.

The activities tend to be simple like this fun Worm Squeezes activity where children pick up the worms with a pair of tweezers.

Plenty of Practice

Each letter has several pages assigned to it. This gives children plenty of time to master the letter or movement before moving on to the next letter.

I greatly prefer this approach to one that assigns children two or three letters to learn on each page.

Wide Range of Ages

Another feature I adore about Catch on to Cursive is that it’s able to be used by a wide variety of ages.

For instance, there are two schedules available: one for younger students and another for older students. Both schedules cover the same material, but the older students move at a much faster rate.

It’s also an easy curriculum to adjust since it includes a wide variety of activities for kids. I can slow down and do a little each day. Or I can skip the motor skills and concentrate on the worksheets for an older child who needs to learn cursive.
