If you have a child who dances at the thought of pink, sparkly, or ballet then you need these books for little girls!
My daughter loved pink and sparkly books when she was five years old.
She twirled through the library and grabbed any book that was pink, sparkly, or featured ballet on the cover. It was delightful! And we read many pink and sparkly books for little girls over the years.
Now, not all of these books for little girls are pink and sparkly or about ballet. But they are all fantastic books my daughter and I loved and we recommend you read with your children.
Pink and Sparkly Books for Little Girls
1. Fancy Nancy
Fancy Nancy by Jane O’Connor is a favorite with my daughter and me. This series features a little girl much like my own. My favorite part of the series is the use of ‘fancy words’ which are then defined for the children. And my daughter loved this book for little girls so much that she still checks them out from the library!
Chickerella by Mary Jane Auch has been checked out several times. Chickerella is a humorous retelling of Cinderella featuring a chicken and her fowl prince. And it’s a story you shouldn’t miss!
3. 5-Minute Princess Stories
5-Minute Princess Stories (5-Minute Stories) is a treasure of Disney princess stories. These aren’t the stories from movies, but rather fresh stories. My daughter and I loved reading through these stories time and time again!
4. Bea at Ballet
Bea at Ballet by Rachel Isadora is a book for little girls that introduces them to ballet. It had my daughter trying the various foot positions in ballet. And was a highly requested read-aloud at bedtime.
5. Presenting Tanya, the Ugly Duckling
Presenting Tanya, the Ugly Duckling by Patricia Lee Gauch is about a girl learning her part in the ballet The Ugly Duckling. The delightful aspect of the story is the Ugly Duckling isn’t just the story of the Ballet, but also the plot of the book as you watch Tanya transform.
6. Miss Tutu’s Star
Miss Tutu’s Star by Leslea Newman is a delightful story of a girl studying ballet and working hard in class before she makes her debut on stage. Will she be a star? Find out with your daughter when you read this delightful book for little girls.
7. The Duchess of Whimsy
The Duchess of Whimsy by Randall and Peter de Seve is a simply extraordinary tale that shouldn’t be missed! The Duchess of Whimsy loves everything fancy while the Earl of Norm loves everything, well, normal. This delightful fairy tale shouldn’t be missed!
8. The Very Fairy Princess: Here Comes the Flower Girl!
The Very Fairy Princess: Here Comes the Flower Girl! by Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton is a fun story about a little girl when her aunt gets married. The little girl dreams of being a flower girl at a large wedding. But her aunt has different plans…

Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans is a classic book well-loved for many generations. My daughter and I loved the pictures of Paris and the story of the littlest girl named Madeline.
11. The Paper Bag Princess
The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch is a unique variation of the classic tale of a dragon, a prince, and a princess. The princess, faced with unexpected problems and a stuck-up prince, must think quickly. My daughter and I have read this book many, many times over the years!
