I received Mammoth Math, an easy math curriculum to use, for free and was compensated for my time. All opinions are my honest opinions and I was not required to post a positive review. For more information, please read my disclosure.

Mammoth Math is an easy math curriculum to use.

Easy to Use and Thorough

Mammoth Math is easy to get started. All you need to do is download the files, print, and go. Once you start, it quickly becomes apparent that Mammoth Math is a thorough math curriculum.

All the needed concepts for the grade level are covered. You don’t need to worry about an important concept not being covered or skipped.

In fact, there’s even a sheet included in the download files which shows how Common Core aligns with Mammoth Math. Your kids will keep up or surpass their peers in public schools.

Easy & Comprehensive

Each of the concepts in Mammoth Math is introduced in multiple ways.

For instance in the first-grade worktext A, addition is covered by:

  • Making groups
  • Finding the missing item
  • Adding on a number line
  • Word problems
  • Puzzles
  • Adding many numbers (1 + 3 + 2)
  • Addition tables
  • Comparisons

It’s super easy to use all these various ways of introducing addition. Just follow along in the workbook and you’re guided through the instructions. Easy-peasy!

Easy to Customize

Children struggle with different concepts. One child may quickly pick up addition but struggle with multiplication. Another may adore shapes and geometry but struggle with addition and subtraction.

Your math curricula need to be able to be customized to your child.

That’s exactly what Mammoth Math allows you to do.

  • Make review sheets specifically for your child
  • Going on a trip? Money is available in several currencies
  • Use the worksheet maker for more worksheets
  • Use the tests or skip the tests

Don’t attempt to shove your child into a standardized math program. Instead, customize Mammoth Math to fit your child.

Easy & Inexpensive to Use

When you purchase Mammoth Math, you’re not purchasing a physical curriculum. You’re purchasing the download files. This makes Mammoth Math super inexpensive!

Once you’ve purchased and downloaded the files, all you need to do is print the cheerfully colored pages you need.

No manipulatives are needed. Mammoth Math is just a thorough print-and-go math curriculum

Mammoth Math

With Mammoth Math, you can customize your child’s math education.

Each grade level includes two student worktexts (A and B) which contain all the instructions and exercises in the same book. This is what you need to print to get started.

While for 1st grade I didn’t need the answer keys, the answer keys are included. This is handy as the kids progress in math.

There are tests, cumulative reviews, and even a worksheet maker.

Mammoth Math makes it easy to customize your child’s math curriculum to fit your child’s needs.

  1. This looks like an easy to use curriculum. I’m curious about the Common Core connection. Do the downloaded pages teach math in a traditional way or a Common core way?

    1. The sheet aligning Common Core to Mammoth Math merely lists the concepts needed to be taught at each grade and when Mammoth teaches the concept.

To be honest, I’m not familiar with how Common Core teaches, but I would say Mammoth Math teaches in a more traditional manner. A manner that is very conceptual. For instance when teaching children to add and subtract with carrying or borrowing, children are shown how to break apart the numbers. For instance 9 + 7 is switched to 9+1+6. Or 39 + 7 would be 39 + 1 + 6 = 40+6. Singapore Math, if I remember right, also teaches children to make groups of ten when adding. I saw this approach to teaching math long before I ever heard of Common Core. 🙂

      1. Common Core is just a list of WHAT is to be taught/covered each year, not a HOW. The crummy Common Core math problems you see online have nothing to do with the Common Core sequence requirements, but rather with textbook companies scrambling to meet the new requirements and pushing out crummy textbooks.
Math Mammoth was not originally aligned with Common Core, but when the CC sequence came out, all Maria Miller had to do was to shift a few sections down a grade level to make it align (for instance “introducing” the concept of multiplication a year earlier). So, nothing in the teaching of HOW changed.

        1. Thanks for clarifying, Stephani! I’ve not paid much attention to Common Core, since it came out after I was settled into my homeschool routine. 🙂

  2. We love Math Mammoth! We started with Singapore because I like the Mastery approach (which Math Mammoth is as well), but Singapore was too teacher intensive. Math Mammoth is easier to use as mostly “self-teaching” for the student (some tutoring or “getting the child started” on a section is sometimes necessary, but I don’t have to sit there THE ENTIRE TIME anymore 🙂 ).

    1. Mammoth Math is an excellent math program. I’ve always been impressed with how Maria Miller introduces concepts in so many different ways to ensure kids truly understand the mathematical principles.

Independence and self-teaching curricula are wonderful! Kids can get going on their learning without needing us to spoon-feed them. 🙂
