Classical Christian Education isn’t about the curriculum you use.Nor will tossing Latin into our day or reading the right books turn you into a classical homeschooler. There’s more to teaching our children about wisdom, beauty, virtue, and truth than simply finding the perfect textbook.
I received the Five Elements of Classical Homeschooling for free. All opinions are my own and I was not required to give a positive opinion.
The Five Elements of Classical Homeschooling
Have you ever wondered how do you give your children a Classical Christian Education? What are the goals and what’s the course of study?
What and how should we teach our children?
If you’ve ever asked these questions, you’re in luck! Jennifer Dow at Expanding Wisdom has created a course titled The Five Elements of Classical Homeschooling.
The course comes in five modules covering why we teach classically, what are we teaching, how do we teach, and more. The goal is to allow you to build a vibrant classical homeschool for your family.
As you begin this marvelous course, you first need to download or print the 90 page workbook which guides you through the course. Once you’ve printed out the workbook, you’re ready to listen to the introductory mp3 file.
Mp3 files are awesome! You can listen to them while washing dishes, folding laundry, or running children around town to various activities.
The format for most of the modules is simple. Listen to the mp3 lesson. Once you’ve completed it, you’re given reflection questions as well as tips for practical application.
And let me tell you the tips are awesome! Too many times have I seen books and lectures that lean towards the theoretical but never give you ideas for applying these ideas into your own homeschool.
You’re always left floundering.
No, Jennifer Dow ensured these tips have actually been used and do work. Some are easy to implement, some you’re probably already doing and just didn’t realize it.
You’re also given links to more information on the topics being discussed. The lessons include links to blog posts, audio files, and a going deeper section that includes even MORE information.
You’ll be amazed with the wealth of information in Expanding Wisdom’s The Five Elements of Classical Homeschooling.
You’re given enough theory, thought, and reflections to keep even experienced classically homeschooling moms fascinated with new material.
Yet new homeschoolers can work through the modules and get their homeschools moving from scratch with all the practical tips included in the course.
Let me put it this way, the Five Elements of Classical Homeschooling delves in to theoretical side of the history, trivium, quadrivium, and the liberal arts tradition. It discusses what you need as teachers of the classical tradition, and how to develop a liturgy for your homeschools.
And The Five Elements of Classical Homeschooling doesn’t stop there.
A course of study is laid out in outline form for all twelve grades. It’s laid out in such an easy format that you can print out the sheets for your youngest children, your middle school kids , as well as your high school teenagers, lay the sheets side by side, and plan away.
For those of you that want or need it, specifics are given for different types of curriculum. There’s even recommendations for boxed curriculum if you want to simply make the order and call it good. Sometimes a boxed curriculum is the best solution.
While the theory develops through the course, the practical remains just as practical. You’re guided through planning the year, how to set up a schedule, and what sorts of co-ops you might consider for your family. Record keeping is also discussed.
Nothing is left to chance.
The Five Elements of Classical Homeschooling is one of those rare birds. A course that is meaty and thoughtful enough for experienced homeschoolers and yet has simple actions even a new homeschool mom can follow to begin her own Classical Christian Homeschool.
