Have you ever pulled out the crayons and water colors only to have the kids groan? They’re sick and tired of the same old crayon drawings and water color paintings. If so, it’s time to introduce a new medium!
The IDO 3D Vertical Pen Kit!
I received the 3D Pen kit for free and was compensated for my time to create this post. All opinions are my honest opinions and I was not required to give a positive review. For more information, please read my disclosure policy.
Creating Art with IDO 3D Pens for Kids
The IDO 3D Pen Kit comes with a variety of ink colors. My kit included red, green, blue, and white. Yes, the black cartridge you see is actually a white ink rather than black.
In addition, each ink cartridge comes with it’s own tip. As you can see in the picture below, the tips are color coded. There’s no risk of accidentally mixing up colors.
As ultraviolet light hardens the ink, a set of lights is used. You place the lights over the ink cartridge which allows the light to shine on the ink as you draw. The ink hardens and holds it’s shape.
There’s also a clear plastic sheet to use as your base for all 3D projects, and two curved plastic sheets to enable you to make bowls, nests, eggs, etc. Underneath you can see the blueprint to enable you to create various projects.
The various projects begin with the blueprint. Some blueprints are included with the kit, but you can find more blueprints to print here.
After you’ve chosen and printed your blueprint, you trace the drawings in the 3D ink color you choose. My daughter is tracing the feathers in red in the picture below.
As you trace the pieces, the light hardens the ink. You can also turn the plastic sheet over to harden the ink from the back.
After the pieces are drawn and hardened, you carefully glue them together.
This new medium combines drawing and sculpting into one fabulous project. You can draw and glue pieces together as I did below making a triceratops head for my youngest son.
You also have the option of creating your own statues. There’s no reason you need to be limited to using only the blueprints. So encourage your children to draw their own 3D pictures in the air.
How do I know this?
My own family adores creating unique artwork using the 3D pen. It challenges everyone!
There are even free art courses available. Your family can enjoy these informative classes as they learn to master this new art medium.
If you and your kids tired using of using crayons and water colors, hand them a IDO 3D Vertical Pen Kit. There’s nothing like a new art medium to recharge your children’s creativity.
Tips and Tricks to Using 3D Pens
- Make certain the blue light tip is firmly pressed on. Push hard to ensure it clicks and holds.
- Don’t turn on the light immediately. First get the ink flowing before you turn on the light. This prevents the tip from clogging.
- Take your time. Using the IDO 3C Vertical Pens is like using any other art medium. It takes time, patience, and practice to make these awesome creations.
- Remember to browse through the IDO 3D website. It has useful tips and tricks, “Art”icles, Blueprints, and more.
- Sunlight hardens the ink. Place a finished project in the direct sun to finish hardening your artwork.
